Abstract:
Gender inequality in housework has been the center of sociological research for decades and continues to be a topic of public interest. However, despite extensive sociological attention, many questions about gender inequality and housework remain open, namely those pertaining to the changes that the Second Demographic Transition (SDT) has introduced to family life. This talk will review two studies focusing on two specific SDT processes in the United States – repartnering and diverse family structures – to enhance our understanding of the stability of gender relations amid family change and complexity.
