Many neighborhoods of Western cities are experiencing a dramatic transformation of their social composition. Locals, labor migrants, lifestyle migrants, expats, highly skilled millennials, digital nomads, tourists, and vulnerable populations are, among many, different socioeconomic groups competing to live in specific areas of the city (or not to be displaced from). At the same time, the housing offer is mainly configured as a result of private market mechanisms. Local and international literature provides evidence of multiple processes at the local level (gentrification, displacement, exclusion, among others) that are generating strong changes in the metropolitan configuration, increasing the spatial distance among the different social groups.

During the workshop, we will explore processes of sociodemographic change that Western cities are currently undergoing, focusing in particular on population dynamics.
