Health and ageing
The general increase in life expectancy observed in most countries of the world represents an unprecedented success in human history. At the same time, this breakthrough poses enormous challenges for the organization of our societies and the well-being of its inhabitants. For instance, life expectancy in good health has not undergone the same improvements. Moreover, there are also persistent inequalities between women and men and different social groups. The main objective of the Demography and Health research group is to produce scientific knowledge that sheds light on these phenomena, with the purpose of guiding the development of public policies.
Our main research lines revolve around the following topics:
1. Ageing and society
2. Health, mortality and causes of death
3. Health inequalities
4. Elderly care
