Ageing and Society

Description

The relative increase in the number of older people represents a challenge for the welfare state and its transfer policies, especially regarding the pension system, public health expenditures, and care systems. Concerning the care system, the role of families is also crucial, and it is important to understand how demographic changes are affecting family composition, which in turn impacts the availability of caregivers and the well-being of those in need of care. The research group "Aging and Society" focuses on studying the implications of population aging across various dimensions. One of the most important areas is the analysis of intergenerational transfers, both financial and caregiving, and the consequences of these flows on people’s well-being, including mental well-being. A gender perspective, taking into account reproductive labor and socioeconomic inequalities, is a central element in all of the group’s projects.
