Títol: A world of 8 billion people: Expectations and prospects
Abstract: In October 2022 we reached 8 billion inhabitants. This milestone occurs at a time of population growth of less than 1% worldwide, where two thirds of the inhabitants live in countries with fertility rates below replacement. The new demographic moment poses a paradigm shift, where concern about high growth in some countries coexists with anxiety about low fertility in others. The recent UNFPA World Population Report opens the space for discussion on the sources of «demographic anxiety» and ways to build «demographic resilience» as strategies to face the challenge of this new population scenario.
