Abstract.- Migration, Integration and Health in China
China’s massive rural-urban migration has produced transformative social, economic, demographic and health consequences. The talk will introduce the background of rural-urban migration and then conceptualize the social integration of rural-urban migrants. The study uses nationally representative data to describe status social integration, and use data from a survey of rural-urban migrants in 2015-2016 in Guangdong province to investigate the link between acculturation and mental health among rural-urban migrants by considering acculturation as a multidimensional and bicultural process. The findings demonstrate that the effects of acculturation on mental health of rural-urban migrants are partially mediated by social support and socioeconomic status but not by perceived stress. The talk will finally discuss the policy implications of the findings.
