Julián López Colás obtained his PhD in Demography from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a postgraduate diploma in "Methods and Techniques for the Study of Population" from the Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics. He is specialized in topics related to residential and territorial demography, such as projections of residential demand and the analysis of residential patterns of the population. This line of research began with his doctoral thesis, in which he analyzed the use and ownership of secondary residences in Spain from a regional perspective and has continued with his participation in different projects related to territorial planning and development. In the research area, he participated in the forecasts of municipal residential demand for the Local Housing Plans of the provincial government of Barcelona (Diputació); in the population and households projections to develop the Territorial Plan of the Housing of the Catalan regional government (Generalitat) as well as in projections for municipalities. In addition, he has participated in two I + D + i projects directed by Dr. Juan Antonio Módenes. The first was aimed at analyzing the demographic factors that influenced residential demand in Spain during the years of the economic and residential boom. This project focused on the contribution of foreign immigration flows and the increase in life expectancy to the demographic needs of new housing. The objective of the second project was to identify the main parameters of the Spanish residential system in the last 15 years, and to analyze the relative position of the Spanish case in relation to the rest of the countries in the area of study. Since January 2014, he has also participated in the R + D + i project led by Dr. Módenes and Dr. Joaquín Recaño. This project studies geographic mobility and access to housing in Spain and compares it with other countries around us. In recent years, Julián López Colás has combined these activities with his participation in other projects. These include "WorldFam: “Towards a Unified Analysis of World Population: Family Patterns in Multilevel Perspective", funded by the European Research Council, and "Data Whiteout Boundaries”, funded by the European Commission, both led by Dr. Albert Esteve. The first aims to analyze the effects and interdependencies of social and individual factors on patterns of family formation around the world. The second is part of a research network whose objective is to facilitate easy access to official microdata for the European Research Area. Finally, since January 2016, he has participated in the project "Equalizing or Disiqualizing? Opposing Socio-Demographic Determinants of the Spatial Distribution of Welfare ", directed by Dr. Iñaki Permanyer and funded by the European Research Council. The results of the two lines of research have been disseminated in peer-reviewed journal articles, books and book chapters. Results have also been presented in national conferences, seminars and in international conferences such as organized by the Population Association of America (PPA), the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS), the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) and the Latin American Population Association (ALAP).
