{"id":10607,"date":"2015-12-08T16:44:17","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T16:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ced.uab.es\/en\/sobre-el-ced\/dades-i-historia\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T09:41:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T09:41:09","slug":"dades-i-historia","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ced.cat\/en\/about-ced\/dades-i-historia\/","title":{"rendered":"Facts and history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre for Demographic Studies (CED), is a <a href=\"https:\/\/cerca.cat\/\">CERCA<\/a> center, which is located on the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (<a href=\"http:\/\/ced.cat\/en\/sobre-el-ced\/contacte-i-localitzacio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">map and location<\/a>), was founded in 1984 with three basic aims: 1) to promote basic and applied research; 2) Teaching of two kinds \u2013 specific training courses and postgraduate studies; and, 3) Dissemination of knowledge concerning population in Catalonia by means of publications, seminars and lectures.<\/p>\n<p>The CED is a public consortium with independent legal status. It has a Governing Council consisting of representatives from the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia and its Scientific Advisory Board, by members of recognized prestige (<a href=\"http:\/\/ced.cat\/en\/sobre-el-ced\/organs-de-govern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">governing bodies<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>More than sixty people, including researchers and technical and administrative staff, presently work at the CED (<a href=\"https:\/\/ced.cat\/en\/categoria-personal\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">directory<\/a>).\u00a0<strong>Dr. Albert Esteve <\/strong>has been director of the Centre since 2015.\u00a0The previous director was <strong>Dr. Anna Cabr\u00e9<\/strong>, whose work to develop the institution eventually led it to be situated among Europe\u2019s top five centres for demographic research. She is now Honorary Director of the CED.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2015, the CED was awarded the Narc\u00eds Monturiol Plaque for Scientific and Technological Merit.
